Designed and created by

Sophie Hellebaut.

Sophie Hellebaut - Belgium-based - started her woodturning activities in 2020 with creating bowls and trays made of different wood types all over the world.

Sustainability and aesthetic harmony in colour, form and grain here are scrupulously respected while shaping wood and searching for the right dimensions.

As Sophie was progressing in her woodturning journey, the vase and lighting collection became a fact.

The lighting, vase and bowl collections symbolise the cylindrical shape of a tree. Also, trees exhibit a phenomenon called “phototropism,” where they grow towards the sun. This behaviour is a crucial survival mechanism that allows trees to optimize their exposure to sunlight, which is essential for photosynthesis. The ability to grow towards the sun is a remarkable adaptation that enables trees to thrive in their environment and efficiently utilize the sun’s energy to produce food and support their life cycle.

The lighting collection is an embodiment of this natural phenomenon.

The wooden objects are designed and made locally in Sophie's atelier at Sint-Martens-Latem (Belgium), and therefore she uses noble woods that grow in forests destined to the production of renewable wood.

The name of the atelier, Collón, refers to the trees in forests which do not stand alone, they exist as a part of a complex and interconnected ecosystem.
